This February 2nd, Venezuela is experiencing a historic day with the holding of the first National Popular Consultation of 2025, a process that strengthens community power and consolidates participatory democracy in the country.
The National Communal Electoral Commission (CNEC) reports that voting centers are operating normally and are seeing a high turnout of citizens, who are enthusiastically exercising their right to decide on projects that will directly impact their localities.
Carolina Arellano, a member of the CNEC, emphasizes that in this consultation, Venezuelans are choosing from 36,000 community projects, with seven selected for each communal circuit. “Today, the people are voting with joy for their needs, empowering the communes and strengthening popular participation,” says Arellano during her assessment of the day.
